Overview
Founded in 2008 in Berlin, Germany - Zalando is the leading online platform for fashion e-commerce in Europe, delivering to customers in 25 countries. zDirect is Zalando's partner program portal that allows partners to sell to millions of customers across Europe.
Process Highlights
Discovery: Conducting discovery sessions with stakeholders.
Research & Interviews: Conducted research deep-dives and interviews to understand the activities and needs of different users.
Design & Validate: Developed design concepts and validated design with user tests for feedback and design refinements.
Design System: Created an enterprise design system for specific enterprise use cases while matching it to the Zalando brand and customer facing app.
Fail & Learn Fast
Sketching out concepts and ideas with stakeholders was the quickest and most efficient way to express an idea and reach consensus about a direction. Early concepts for zDirect went through many iterations and discussions about providing better insights for our partners.
Final Designs
The newly created info architecture was designed to manage a vast amount of data and information that surfaced the most important and prioritized info at the macro level, and then work it’s way down to reveal more granular layers of info at the micro level. This way, we were able to make it user-friendly while enabling it for the more robust data heavy capabilities it needs for enterprise usage.
Onboarding
All of Zalando's partners have actively requested a portal, such as zDirect, to give them access to their performance. However, given that our partners have never used such a portal - a proper step-by-step onboarding guide was needed to get them started to use the portal and fully leverage all of Zalando's services.
Design System
A design system for zDirect and other enterprise products within Zalando was created in an effort to move faster and allow Zalando to scale its business application efforts through re-use of existing capabilities and software. This would also allow product and engineering teams to focus on solution development as opposed to the recreation of screens and components, thereby vastly increasing efficiency.
